“Right now, Netanyahu isn’t interested in a White House photo-op,” a source familiar with the meeting discussions told i24NEWS, “it’s simply not the right timing.” Prime Minister Netanyahu has canceled his planned trip to the United States next week, with diplomatic sources indicating that the decision was driven by more than scheduling considerations.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the postponement was due to changes surrounding the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham. However, information obtained by i24NEWS indicates that the scheduling issue was only part of the reason behind the decision. According to sources familiar with the matter, intensive efforts were made in recent days to arrange a meeting between Netanyahu and US President Trump during the visit.
Those efforts ultimately failed, with no date finalized for a meeting and no preliminary understandings reached regarding its agenda or expected outcomes, preparatory steps that are typically completed before a summit between national leaders.

The diplomatic backdrop has become increasingly complicated following the collapse of the proposed US-Iran memorandum of understanding. At the same time, tensions have grown within the Trump administration over its approach to Iran.
Those strains were highlighted by Vice President JD Vance’s recent criticism of what he described as Israeli attempts to influence the administration’s policy on the issue.
A source familiar with the discussions told i24NEWS these developments also factored into the decision to cancel the visit.
“Right now, Netanyahu isn’t interested in a White House photo-op,” the source said. “It’s simply not the right timing.”
The cancellation comes at a sensitive moment in US-Israel relations, as both governments continue to navigate disagreements over Iran while maintaining close strategic ties.
The Fighter Jet Program Dispute
- Proposed F-35 Deal: President Trump intends to finalize a major deal allowing Türkiye to rejoin the F-35 program and buy advanced stealth fighter jets.
‘F-35 Criticism, Bogus Kill Plot Intel’: Why Trump Is ‘Pissed’ At Netanyahu back-and-forth over the potential meeting came days after the Israeli leader went on Fox News before Trump’s trip to Ankara and criticised the US leader’s intention to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey.

Washington:
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu reportedly cancelled his planned trip to the United States next week after the White House overlooked his request to schedule his meeting with US President Donald Trump. It’s unclear whether Netanyahu received a clear “no” regarding the meeting request, but he certainly did not receive a positive response from Team Trump, according to a report by Axios.
The development comes amid reports suggesting a growing distance and diverging interests of ‘friends’ Trump and Netanyahu, who started the war against Iran together. White House officials told Axios that while the Israeli PM wanted to meet Trump, a meeting was never confirmed or added to the president’s schedule. “Our impression was that Bibi (Netanyahu’s nickname) was trying to will a meeting into existence,” officials said.
‘Trump Is Pissed At Netanyahu’
The back-and-forth over the potential meeting came days after the Israeli leader went on Fox News before Trump’s trip to Ankara and criticised the US leader’s intention to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey. Trump was “pissed off” by the interview, a White House official told Axios. Another official claimed that the US commander-in-chief felt “Bibi had no right” to weigh in on that issue.
Furthermore, while Trump was in Turkey, Tel Aviv approached Washington with supposed intelligence about a possible Iranian ‘kill plot’ against the US president while he was in Ankara. The intelligence has prompted the Secret Service to take precautions such as switching Trump’s flight to the old Air Force One. But later, several US officials said the information was single-sourced and uncorroborated. “It was more aspirational than operational,” an official said.
The Turkish security services have also reportedly investigated the issue and found there was no specific plot to assassinate Trump in Ankara.
Netanyahu’s Growing Unpopularity
This has added to Netanyahu’s growing unpopularity in Washington. In recent days, several US officials, including Vice President JD Vance, have accused the Israeli PM of making rosy predictions about the Iran war to Trump that didn’t pan out.
Appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast, the US vice president accused members of Netanyahu’s government of trying to undermine the Trump administration’s Iran policy in order to prolong the war. Moreover, as many as 103 House Democrats this week voted to cut $3 billion in US aid to Israel in an astonishing rebuke against Netanyahu and his government.
Netanyahu’s Public Opposition: Netanyahu went on Fox News right before Trump’s July 2026 NATO summit in Ankara to openly criticize the F-35 sales, arguing it would alter the military balance and threaten Israel’s regional air superiority.
Trump’s Reaction: White House officials reported that Trump was left “pissed off” by the public pushback, stating Netanyahu “had no right” to interfere in US defense decisions. Trump ‘pissed off’ by Netanyahu’s criticism of F-35 sale to Türkiye U.S. President Donald Trump is “pissed off” by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s public criticism of the proposed U.S. F-35 sale to Türkiye, Axios reported, citing two White House officials. Simultaneously, Turkish officials met with U.S. lawmakers in Washington to discuss the same fighter jet program.
According to Axios, no meeting between Trump and Netanyahu had been scheduled despite reports in Israeli media that Trump would host the Israeli prime minister on Monday.
