The monsoon is still active across many states in the country. Once again, it’s set to show its impact. In this context, the weather department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several states in the country for September 27, 28, 29, and 30.

The Maharashtra government has issued an advisory urging people to remain cautious amid a forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the state till September 30.

The state emergency operations centre, citing predictions by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), said on Saturday (September 27, 2025) that widespread rain is expected across many districts during this period.

Musi river in spate leaves behind a trail of destruction

Water enters 200-300 houses, and many are completely submerged. Many residents say they were not alerted about water release from two reservoirs. In the city’s main bus station, about 2,000 passengers were evacuated using ropes.

Musi river, in spate due to heavy rain in its catchment areas, left several localities in Hyderabad flooded, including Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), the main State and inter-State bus terminal managed by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC), on Friday.

A family of four is stranded at its home in Rasoolpura Basti of Chaderghat in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) authorities and Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) forces are at the location on Saturday, monitoring the situation and attempting to provide relief.

Heavy overnight rain rendered hundreds of people homeless in Hyderabad as the Musi River marooned low lying areas on Friday (September 26, 2025) night. “The rain water entered our homes at 9 p.m. and we are waiting outside of our home without sleep for the water to recede,” said Mohammed Khalid whose house in Moosa nagar was flooded.

According to officials, Mohammed Ayub and his family refused to move from their home on Friday evening when the authorities tried to evacuate residents in view of the alert from Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) about release of 35,000 cusecs of water from Osman Sagar and Himayat sagar reservoirs.

We evacuated about 11 families from the same area, but this family refused to move out. There are others too who refused to move, but their homes had multiple floors, and they saved themselves by moving to the top floors. This family lived in single storied house,” shared Zonal Commissioner, Charminar Zone, Srinivas Reddy who is at the location monitoring the situation.

He said no rescue efforts could be made now, as the flow in the river is dangerously high. However, food relief is being provided to the stranded families through drones, he said.

“Every time even a little water is released from Gandipet, police would come and pressure us to vacate homes immediately. This time, nothing of that sort happened, and we did not imagine that water would rise so high. Several families are stranded on rooftops and on first and second floors with many children. Relief has not yet come,” complained Shaheen Begum, a resident.
